Recent News: 2011 has been a busy year for David. He started the year as Expedition Leader for a new company (One Ocean Expeditions) leading three very eventful voyages. The first was to the Falklands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula - after more than a decade of leading without an incident he had two medical emergencies requiring Medivacs. The second was 12 days across the Antarctic Circle in near perfect weather so there was never a reason to slow down. On the third, a regulation voyage to the Antarctic Peninsula, he was called to the rescue of the Polar Star after it hit a rock south of the Circle and had to shoehorn an extra 42 passengers in with the 99 already filling the ship. In April, David and Sandra took Holly and Romy to San Francisco and when the others returned to Sydney David flew to Florida to join a ship sailing to Colombia then through the Panama Canal and up via the Pacific coasts of Guatemala, Costa Rica and Mexico before disembarking in San Diego. In July David and Sandra fly to Japan to join Orion II for a voyage to explore Kamchatka and the Kuril Islands of the Russian far east. |
